Margaret is one of Canberra's leading female lawyers, with nearly 40 years in practice after completing her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees at the Australian National University. Margaret founded Phelps Reid Lawyers with Michael Phelps in 1987.
She is keen to deliver negotiated outcomes for her clients and has extensive experience in complex family law & de facto property matters and children's matters. She is an accredited Collaborative Law Practitioner and pragmatic negotiator.
Margaret has had a long involvement in the activities of the ACT Law Society, upon which she has served as a member of Council, member of the Disciplinary Tribunal and a member of the Family Law Committee.
She is a member of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and ACT Women Lawyers’ Association.
Margaret is also transitioning to retirement and around her extensive social and travel calendar, she is working on winding up her practice and otherwise consults to the firm. Once her practice is wound up, Margaret will focus entirely on her work as a mediator, assisting various firms and clients around Canberra to resolve their issues outside of the Courts.
